According to the same Athletic report, the Hammers have also registered an interest in Ings but are in the same bracket as Aston Villa – an unlikely destination.

David Moyes’ side enjoyed a superb last campaign and will be playing Europa League football in 2021/22. They were in with a real shout of Champions League football until the last weeks of the season.

For that reason, they will be looking for a strong rebuild during this off-season to prepare for matches across multiple competitions.

Ings would seemingly fit in at the London Stadium. Michail Antonio is the only recognised striker that the Hammers have right now and they rely on his fitness quite a lot, meaning that they could benefit from adding some competition.

Saints see themselves competing with Aston Villa or West Ham if they manage to get things right in a season so will be unwilling to do business with them on a player they still want to keep.
