Sam McQueen has made it back from injury and has now signed a new contract with Southampton for an additional six months.

According to a new report from The Athletic, the club has given the player a new contract that will see him with the team through January. The club could have easily let the player walk this summer after his injury issues but they have stuck by him and it is good to see him with the club again.

He tore his ACL while on loan with Middlesbrough and has really struggled to come back from the injury. Most Saint fans are fond of the defender and are happy to see him playing football again.

Signing only a 6-month contract, I do not think he may be in Hasenhuttl’s plans for the season but this will allow him to train with the team and get back into football shape and make a move either later in this window or in January.

If McQueen does leave the club this summer I would assume it would be a loan deal with the option to buy at the end of the spell. It will be interesting to follow this situation and see where McQueen lands.

I think we are all cheering for him and would like to see him land on his feet elsewhere. He may have a part to play for Southampton but that is unlikely.
