Southampton may be selling Jannik Vestergaard this Summer and they have no been linked with West Ham defender Issa Diop as a backup.

According to a new report from Sports Witness, the player is being looked at by several teams and not just Southampton. The Saints will also face competition from Wolves and Crystal Palace if they wish to pursue the Frenchman.

West Ham had a fantastic season and that means other teams will be looking to lure away their players and try to replicate their success.

Diop is only 24-years-old and was not the number 1 choice for West Ham so could be open to a move away from the Hammers. According to the report a loan deal is out of the question and it would have to be a permanent move for the defender.

I think, this move would only make sense for Southampton if they move Vestergaard this summer and they would like to add some depth in the back. I do not think Diop would unseat Bednarek nor Salisu for a starting spot but would make for a quality 3rd choice.

But like I said, this will only happen if they move Vestergaard. No reason to pickup another Centre Back if the Dane stays with the club.

The new season starts in less than a month and the team still has business that needs to get done. I am sure most fans are tired of Southampton waiting until the last minute to do business so hopefully, we see some action here soon.
