Southampton: Saints have been linked with a move for Phil Jones
Southampton get linked to a number of players every transfer window and now the latest is Manchester United defender Phil Jones.
According to a new report from 90min, Manchester United are willing to let the veteran defender go for free this summer and a number of teams are seemingly interested on signing the player.
Southampton have been linked with him but I do not see the club actually pursuing the player. He is 29-years-old and the club has made it clear they want to go for youth and players they can develop.
Phil Jones does not fit either of those categories and would probably expect a decent wage bill if he does sign with a new team. I personally think it would be a waste of money and do not think the club should pursue him whatsoever.
I would much rather develop a player who is already in our youth system or singing someone for cheap who has a lot of upside.
The season is approaching and everyone is getting ready for the new season. There is still business to be done this summer and I think the Saints will bring in another player or two.
I am more curious if Southampton will end up selling Danny Ings and Jannik Vestergaard and how much money they could get for both.
I would not be opposed to selling either the club will just need to find replacements for them quickly so they are able to get up to speed and make an impact.
