Jannik Vestergaard has been rumoured to move from Southampton this summer and on the day before their season starts, he is sold to Leicester City.
The move was informally announced via Vestergaard’s Instagram earlier today as he penned a goodbye letter to Southampton fans and thanked the club for his time there. Then a few hours later the club made the move official and announced it via Twitter.
This move likely does not come as much of a surprise to most Saint’s fans as it has been floated around all summer long that he would leave at some point. We hope Jannik the best at Leicester and thank him for his time with the club.
Now, with the season starting tomorrow and a few weeks left in the transfer window the club has some extra money to spend on a few final transfers to round out their window.
I believe now they will go after another centre-back to add coverage as Salisu will step into the starting role and another midfielder will likely be added before the end of August.
If that happens, I do not think Southampton will be in as bad of a spot as a lot of pundits think so. Vestergaard is a lot easier to replace than Danny Ings and Salisu has looked ready to step up and be a full-time Premier League starter.
The Saints kick off the season against Everton on Saturday which will be a tough test undoubtedly. If they can go and grab a result I think that will get the momentum going into what should be a fun season with a lot of youth.
