Strikers and Substitutes

Adam Armstrong, Striker – 6

How’s a debut goal and allowing the traveling faithful to sing your name?  1 on 1 with that much time is not easy, it’s not, and he buried his opportunity in the top corner.  There were small moments where he needed a bit more pace to get on the end of his teammates’ passes, but that will likely come with timing.  Got stuck in the team’s press and tracked back for a couple memorable midfield tackles.  Not sure where he was after the half, but the same can be said for everyone.

Che Adams, Striker – 7

A very deliberate first half from Che Adams who appeared to reserve his energy for key moments.  This ability to recognize these opportunities is a big step in development.  His pass to Armstrong was perfect and he took over the aerial role, winning most if not all of his duels.  Battled until the final whistle, yet was jumpy in his few touches in the Everton box.  You still have to be encouraged by his performance and cannot fault him for the result.

Nathan Tella, Substitute Winger – 5

Many will wonder why he wasn’t given an opportunity to start, or affect the game at an earlier mark.  However, once he stepped on he repeated a small flick through without success with nearly every touch.  Never got to use his pace, but Southampton were done and dusted in his time on the field.

Ibrahima Diallo, Substitute Centre-Mid – 5

Not sure what he was able to do to affect the game, but it is worth noting that he will may be a popular late game sub in place of Romeu.  Perhaps that adds a bit more going forward, but it is a bit unconventional.

Nathan Redmond, Substitute Winger – N/A

Took over for Perraud as Djenepo moved to left back.  Was positive taking on defenders in his short time on the pitch and you shouldn’t be surprised if he starts against United.
