Everton vs Southampton: Premier League – Key Moments from the game
By Joe Mcindoe
Armstrong debuts in style
With the departure of Danny Ings it’s safe to say Adam Armstrong has some big shoes to fill. If his display on opening day is anything go by, the former Blackburn man will have no trouble stepping into to those boots.
The partnership between Che Adams and Armstrong proved to be a consistent first half headache for the hosts. Che continually won knockdowns, and looked to find his strike partner.
This tandem brought about the goal, as Adams steals the ball away from a careless Michael Keane. The striker then feeds the new number 9, who has no trouble doing the rest.
Armstrong bursts into the box and wallops the ball past Jordan Pickford. The result wasn’t quite what The Geordie would have had in mind, but is opening offering holds promise for the season to come.
