Everton vs Southampton: Premier League – Key Moments from the game
By Joe Mcindoe
A wonder strike sees Everton hit the front
Saints were breached two minutes after the break, but gradually recovered and looked to take charge . While they looked good in possession and had multiple corners they couldn’t find the cutting edge.
The Merseysiders however, had no such problem.
The blues took a quick free kick and advanced to the edge of the penalty area. Séamus Coleman picks up possession and is immediately able to draw two defenders towards him.
This leaves Alex Iwobi unmarked and able to head the ball back to just inside the box.
Doucouré pulls off a neet spin to evade the defender, before producing a top corner wonder strike.
There was very little that could be done once the thunderbolt left the Frenchman’s foot, but the move should have been stopped in its infancy.
The goal arrived 14 minutes from time and would probably have been prevented had the backline not left Iwobi unmarked in the box. These lapses will have to be curtailed if Saints ever hope to have a positive season.
