Southampton are looking for a replacement for Jannik Vestergaard and have apparently shown interest in 35-year-old Gary Cahill.

According to a new report from The Telegraph, Southampton have shown some interest in defender Gary Cahill who is currently a free agent after playing last season with Crystal Palace.

Cahill has said he would like to continue playing and does not want to retire just yet so it is possible we see him join a club here soon.

I do not expect Southampton to go through with this move. Cahill is not the player they want and does not fit the mold Hasenhuttl has laid out for players he wants to bring in.

I suspect we will sign a Centre-back some point before the window closes but it will be one who is much younger than Gary Cahill. I have already seen some other names that the club have been linked to and think they will be more likely to be brought in than Cahill.

I think the club will likely bring in two more players this summer before the end of August but they will not be players that cost a ton of money. They will likely be around £10-12m each and I think that would be a successful transfer window.

This rumour for Cahill will just be one that we quickly forget about and I believe we will sign someone younger and faster.

Ralph will have his hands full this year and it is going to be a tough season. Southampton will have to be fighting each match to get as many points as possible.
