Southampton picked up a point against Manchester United and looked really solid in the process. Now let’s see who has been the key to their success so far.

Last season we had a recurring series of the players who were the ones setting the tone for Southampton and playing their best football. It is a new season and we are already two matches in so let us take a look at who has been a difference-maker thus far.

Number 5

Mohamed Salisu

With the departure of Jannik Vestergaard, Salisu is finally able to start regularly in the Premier League and two matches in he has not disappointed.

He has made a few mistakes, which all young players do, but the positives have outweighed the negatives so far this season. His combination of pace and strength make him a real asset to have and is going to make life tough for a lot of opponents this season.

His spot looks safe for now but the question now is who will his centre-back partner be? Right now it is Jack Stephens but I would not be shocked if we see a rotation between him, Bednarek, and Lyanco?
