Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has spoken about how the club may still add another signing to their squad before the transfer deadline.

The window slams shut on Tuesday evening and, speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Saints facing Newcastle, Hasenhuttl confirmed that a central-midfielder could be targeted if the right deal can be found.

A lot of players have been linked with a move to St Mary’s over the course of this summer and some links have been more realistic than others. It remains to be seen whether any concrete rumours over a potential new addition to the midfield will appear in the media.

Just three natural options for the two central-midfield roles are in the current squad. Competition could certainly be needed alongside James Ward-Prowse, Oriol Romeu and Ibrahima Diallo even though others like Stuart Armstrong could fill in if needed.

Another player in this position would give a satisfying look to the first-team group whilst also providing the competition and depth needed to have a successful season. Importantly, Saints have are still able to add one more loan signing in this window.
