5 midfielders linked to Southampton with Hasenhuttl wanting another CM

Sean Longstaff
According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Saints and their recruitment staff see Longstaff as a potential signing.
The 23-year-old came through Newcastle’s academy system and has just one year remaining on his contract at St James’ Park. The Mail claim he is available for around £10m in this window if a club makes a definite move for him.
To date, Longstaff has made 72 senior appearances for Newcastle and is one of very few central-midfield options for Magpies boss Steve Bruce right now.
Whether he is the right signing for Saints is something to be analysed though. He plays a deep-lying role for his current club and would need to add some forward-thinking abilities to fit well into Ralph Hasenhuttl’s 4-2-2-2.
Sean’s brother Matty is also a part of Newcastle’s first-team squad and is two years younger. Both of them were born in Newcastle and are an important homegrown element for their club and its supporters.
