Newcastle vs Southampton Preview: TV, line-ups, prediction
Southampton are coming off of their largest away victory ever and have a chance to go into the international break on a winning streak.
Both clubs are looking for their first win of the new Premier League season and both will believe this is a perfect match to get it. Southampton currently just have a point after a gutsy draw with Manchester United and Newcastle do not have a point to yet.
This should be an exciting matchup due to the fact that both teams believe they will be able to win so let us take a look at how either side could come away with 3 points.
Why Newcastle Will Win
The Magpies first two matches were against West Ham and Aston Villa and lost both by two goals. They will want to snap that streak going into the international break and stop this slide before it becomes a major issue.
They will be in front to of their home crowd and will be hungry for a result. Southampton still look vulnerable on the counter and Newcastle will look to take advantage of that. Looks for Saint-Maximin to wreak havoc on Saints’ backline.
Why Southampton Will Win
The Saints scored 8 goals in their league cup match and even though it was against a lower league side it had to be good for the confidence. I think we see a similar lineup to the one Ralph used in the first two league matches but I have a feeling we may see someone other than Walcott on the Right.
If Southampton can press Newcastle effectively and get quick chances and convert those chances they will like their chances. I think Southampton will need to put in 2 or more in order to win and I think they are capable of that.
Team News
Southampton will be without Stuart Armstrong this match as he is still suffering from a minor calf injury but is expected to return after the break. With the impressive showing on Wednesday, it will be interesting to see how that affects the team selection.
Newcastle will be missing Martin Dubravka, Jonjo Shelvey, Karl Darlow, and Elliot Anderson. The likes of Issac Hayden could return but that is yet to be seen.

Highlights of Newcastle vs. Saints will be shown on Sky Sports and Match of the Day in the UK and will be shown on Peacock in the United States.
