Midfielders

James Ward-Prowse, Centre-Midfielder – 6

Constant professional in the centre of the pitch, rarely putting a foot wrong.  His set pieces are going to waste as there appears to be a missed connection with his targets.  They haven’t been as top notch as the past, but a number of his balls into the box are missing opponents as well.  A couple of sloppy fouls and indecisiveness around goal were worrying traits.

Oriol Romeu, Centre-Midfielder – 6

Unbelievable throughout the first half hour breaking up Wolves’ counter attacks in a fast-paced match.  Found himself awkwardly far forward too often with the team in possession.  The second half is what fans will remember, because his role changed twice.  He looked a bit lost, but tactically, we’re not sure where he was playing.

Mohammed Elyounoussi, Attacking-Midfielder – 6

First opportunity to attack fell to him, but he oddly chose to strike from 25 yards.  A number of poor giveaways to thwart Saints’ chances in the first 30 overall.  Was the most likely to score, but never made it difficult for José Sá.  His willingness to take a risk and attack are admirable traits, but he lacks that extra bit of quality in the final third.

Nathan Redmond, Attacking-Midfielder – 4

Contributes defensively covering the left side with an extremely high Walker-Peters, but does little to add to the attack.  Put the ball in the back of the net with a creative chest control, but was clearly offside.  It was a disappointing and all too predictable performance from the man with so much talent and desire, yet so little confidence in the final third.
