Southampton fell to their second straight Premier League defeat on Saturday after losing 3-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Saints did look on track to pick something up after half-time changes from Ralph Hasenhuttl gave his side control and James Ward-Prowse’s penalty levelled things up just after the hour.

However, the Saints captain then received a straight red card for a needless challenge on Chelsea man Jorginho and this put his teammates up against it in the final stages. Two late goals for the hosts made their win look a lot more routine than it perhaps was.

Despite the difficulty of the fixture anyway, this proved another missed opportunity for Saints and they now sit just one place above the relegation zone whilst awaiting their first league victory of this season.
