Southampton have been linked with a January move for Hull City starlet Keane Lewis-Potter after the superb start he has made to his career.
According to the Hull Daily Mail, Saints are one of the clubs interested in the 20-year-old and Hull are “bracing themselves” for offers in the new year. The references report also claims that Saints’ Head of Recruitment Martyn Glover had watched Lewis-Potter.
Lewis-Potter had his full breakout season in 2020/21 and played a huge part in the Tigers’ promotion charge from League One to the Championship. In all, he scored 15 goals and provided six assists across all competitions during the last campaign.
He has also returned to the Championship in bright fashion after playing every league minute and contributing to a further five goals, and it seems Hull and their manager Grant McCann are fully aware of the links between their star player and Southampton.
Hull boss admits asking Lewis-Potter about Southampton links
Speaking to the press back in September – via the Hull Daily Mail – McCann said he had jokingly asked Lewis-Potter about whether he was going to join Saints and this proves that there are swirling rumours that Hull are aware of.
There will surely be some significant competition for the signature of seemingly one of the brightest talents in England but Southampton will be keeping tabs on the situation if they are truly interested in adding to their attack in January.
Lewis-Potter’s goalscoring record as a winger will have Ralph Hasenhuttl intrigued. His use of number 10s in his 4-2-2-2 system mean that players in these positions need to have the ability to create and score – components that are clear to see in this youngster’s game.
Southampton have had very limited contributions from their number 10s so far during this season and they could be forced into some transfer action in January if the right option becomes available for them.
