Southampton 1-0 Leeds: Premier League – Player Ratings
By Erik Franzo
Armando Broja opened his Premier League account, scoring the loan goal in a victory over Leeds United at Saint Mary’s.
Armando Broja getting a Premier League start was an exciting selection. Nathan Redmond alongside him was not. Adam Armstrong left on the bench when the team needs goals was the most surprising omission. The first half of Southampton sheer dominance reinforced Ralph’s questionable decision-making. Broja came close on two corners and a drive on net, but the only other opportunities were half-chances from Redmond and Elyounoussi.
Saints’ ball recovery throughout the match, was superb. Leeds couldn’t find a stretch of possession thanks to Romeu, Diallo, and Salisu. Mohammed Salisu had an incredible contest, flashing all his tools. His tackling was perfect, his aerial ability was unmatched, and his ability to contribute to the attack was dynamic.
Nathan Redmond quieted a lot of doubters with his performance. He was direct today. Possibly a product of the space he was afforded, but he never stood on the ball. Southampton lined up in a 4-4-2, but in possession it was more so a 4-5-1. Redmond disrupted the lines of the Leeds defence and was decisive in his movement. Not every pass came off, but it was always with good intent and vision. Let the fans please back the man now!
Southampton 1-0 Leeds United probably should have been 4-0. It was as convincing on a performance as you will see from the Saints. They played to a similar level to their trip to the Ethiad, but this time bagged a goal and three points. It will predictably be high ratings throughout the lineup, but here are the player ratings for Southampton.
