Southampton 1-0 Leeds: Three Key Moments from the game
By Joe Mcindoe
Broja shows composure
The match marked Armando Broja’s first home start for his temporary club. The 20-year-old had previously found the net in a league cup tie with Newport and impressed in a top-flight contest with West Ham.
The Albanian international can easily stake a claim for man of the match, and not just because he scored. The front man was involved in several of his side’s best moments and worked well with his man of the match rival Nathan Redmond.
The all-important goal arrived just before the hour mark and was brought on by a decisive counter-attack. Leeds looked to mount a rare offensive, but typical sloppiness led to their downfall.
The move began with the visitors attempting to fashion an opportunity, but the ball is soon nicked away by Ibrahim Diallo.
The defensive midfielder can’t take control, but the ball drops kindly for Moussa Djenepo Who smartly picks out a great ball to Nathan Redmond.
The pass sees Redmond and Broja two on one against a Beleaguered back line. The former Norwich man makes a surging run into the box, before straightforwardly playing the ball into his strike partner.
With the keeper to beat, Armando coolly taps it past the rushing number one. A much-deserved goal set the red-and-white army on the road to a crucial victory.
There was still enough time for Leeds to attempt to steal a share of the spoils though.
