The moment you know it’s not your day

The away side were poor throughout the match and failed to test Alex McCarthy. Despite being inert throughout the contest, United were handed a late chance to commit daylight robbery.

The oppositions’ best chance arrived via a hopeful ball whacked up field. This only occurred because, the typically reliable Mohammed Salisu, misplaced his pass inside the Sains half.

The centre back then retreats to his position, but soon finds himself under pressure again. Daniel James makes the run and is able to nudge Salisu out of the way.

To make matters worse Alex McCarthy has arrived on the scene to pick up possession but can only watch as a toe poke shot trickles past him towards an empty net.

Luckily for the Saints, the metaphorical getaway car stalls as the ball rolls gently across goal and into touch.

Even the most biased Leeds fan would have to concede that a point for the Yorkshireman would have constituted nothing short of theft. Even so, Southampton can count themselves lucky to claim the clean sheet.
