Watford 0-1 Southampton: Three key moments from Saints’ win
By Joe Mcindoe
One shot, One spectacular goal
Che Adams is something of a form scorer. That is to say when he gets one he’ll get several more for the next few weeks, before tailing off once more.
The Scottish international found the net in the carabao cup tie with Chelsea in mid week, and was in the mood to strike against Watford. Whilst Tuesday’s goal was an on the line tap in, his latest effort was anything but.
With only 20 minutes on the clock Saints were quick to fashion the decisive opportunity.
The goal comes as Adam Armstrong attempts to use his pace to reach the box. The striker is quickly stalled by a couple defenders, but does just enough to move the ball away from a gold shirt.
Luckily, Che Adams has seen the loose ball and runs across to meet it. The number 10 calmly turns, pauses, before letting the ball fly into the top corner of the net.
The effort is surely a goal of the season contender, and is the best goal the former Birmingham man has managed in his Southampton career. That includes his home strike against Manchester City.
It is odd that a man Who so often struggles in front of the posts, is capable of such nonchalant composure in the face of true difficulty. The goal was brought about by a small slice of luck in the build up, but it was no more than the team deserved.
The finish marks Adams’ first notch of the Premier League campaign. Let us hope that is the first of many.
