McCarthy to the rescue

Alex McCarthy had very little work to do throughout the afternoons action, but what he did he did very well. When the ball was crossed into the box, more often than not McCarthy could be relied upon to simply pluck it out of the air.

The shot stopper was called upon to save the day though.

As the match entered the final stages, Watford managed to produce a bright cutting move. The home side worked The football from back to front with just a few passes.

Moussa Sissoko picks up the ball just inside the Saints half and effortlessly drifts past Oriol Romeu. Approaching the area he feeds the ball to Joshua King. Rather than cross, King provides a superb pass to Ashley Fletcher.

With the keeper to beat. the substitute attempts to defeat his man with a low shot. Fortunately, the number one is alive to the danger and manages an excellent dive to his right to snuff out the threat.

Alex McCarthy may have suffered a poor start to the season, but with each passing week those dark days are becoming a distant memory.
