Southampton picked up a win against Watford on Saturday after a solid performance and now look to build on the momentum they are gaining.

This sees the Saints jump up to 14th on the table and now 4 points clear of the relegation zone.

There have been a number of players who have had good performances this season and now it is time to take a look at the top 5 players right now for Southampton.

Number 5

James Ward-Prowse

JWP made his return from his suspension and fit right back in. He did not play all 90 minutes but that does not matter. He looked like he did not miss a step and he will lead the team for the rest of the season.

He was likely a little rusty but truthfully the time off was probably good for him as he had been dealing with a knee issue as well as a stomach bug.

He has returned to the top 5 and I am willing to bet we will see him here the rest of the season.

Number 4

Oriol Romeu

Some supporters were wondering if we would see Ibrahima Diallo start in place of Romeu or Ward-Prowse but it was Romeu who got the nod. He has been one of the more consistent performers this season and it is his leadership on the pitch that is just as vital as his play.

He is having one of his better seasons and he has been a lot of fun to watch this season.

Number 3

Alex McCarthy

McCarthy was another player that supporters thought he could be dropped due to Fraser Forster’s performance in the cup but he proved against Watford why he needs to be starting.

His save late in the match ensured the Saints got all 3 points from the match and he has been one of the better shot-stoppers in the league this year. I think he will remain the starting keeper for the rest of the season and deserves it.

Number 2

Tino Livramento

The youngster is such a natural talent and he proved yet again against Watford why he is indispensable this season. The runs he made with the ball and some of the fouls he drew were incredible and the composure at such a young age is impressive.

The scary thing is he is only going to get better and I cannot wait to see how talented he could become. He has been instrumental in our success and will continue to be throughout the season.

Number 1

Mohammed Salisu

Salisu is quickly becoming everything we knew he could be and more when we purchased him last season. He is such a quality defender and really has shown no weaknesses all season long.

Just like Livramento, Salisu is only going to improve and that is a scary prospect for other teams. Bednarek has been a bit shaky this season and if Lyanco can play like he did against Chelsea those two will be a scary combination.
