Southampton full-back Tino Livramento has been praised by England manager Gareth Southgate after his early season form in the Premier League.

The 18-year-old took a bold step to move away from Chelsea back in the summer but has instantly become a regular in the top-flight with some hugely impressive displays at St Mary’s.

Assessing his wealth of options at right-back and what he has seen from Livramento so far, Southgate said:

"“Reece (James) and Trent (Alexander-Arnold) are performing at a really high level. I also think Tino Livramento, when talking about young players, has had an excellent start to the season.”"

Southampton’s Livramento on England’s radar as Ward-Prowse retains his place

Gareth Southgate did not speak directly on Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse but spoke about keeping consistency with his squad selection after having a similar group of players in previous international breaks.

Ward-Prowse played the full 90 minutes in the 5-0 win over Andorra back in October and managed to net his second international goal with a rebound from his own penalty.

Importantly, he has beaten off some significant competition to stay in Southgate’s thoughts this time around.

Other Premier League players such as Crystal Palace’s Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek would surely have been looked at by Southgate and his coaching staff after strong form but it is Ward-Prowse who gets the chance to push himself further into thoughts for next year’s World Cup.

For Tino Livramento, he will be set for a place in the England Under-21s squad for their games in the upcoming international break and he will know that it is still early for him in terms of senior call-ups – especially with the full-back areas so competitive for England.

Livramento and Ward-Prowse have one more Southampton game to play before heading away as Aston Villa arrive on the South Coast on Friday evening. Saints will be targeting a fourth game unbeaten and the potential of 10 points from a possible 12.
