Midfielders

Oriol Romeu, Central-Midfielder – 9

Probably the one key man on the night with excellent tackles and good ball retention when Saints needed it.

As so many fans have pointed out, he is a brilliant player to have in the squad despite him often going under the radar compared to Ward-Prowse

James Ward-Prowse, Central-Midfielder – 8

Led the team well in the first-half and as Southampton regained control in the second period too.

Went close to scoring with a fizzing drive that was tipped wide and almost bagged an assist as Che Adams went close to heading his free-kick into the far corner.

Stuart Armstrong, Right-Wing/Number 10 – 6

Not quite up to full speed but that is to be expected. Should have scored early one with a close-range volley.

Mohamed Elyounoussi, Left-Wing/Number 10 – 6

Linked well with Walker-Peters down the left but perhaps did not contribute as much as he would have wanted to attacking situations.
