Southampton have made it no secret that a new goalkeeper is in the cards this coming summer and are now linked with Ajax keeper Charlie Setford.
According to TeamTalk, The 17-year-old is an English youth international despite being born in the Netherlands. The youngster is also a Saints fan so that could help entice him to come to the South Coast.
The shot-stopper has shown a ton of promise and is already making Ajax’s first team on a regular basis.
This move is right up Southampton’s alley as they have shown they are willing to take a risk on youth players with a ton of potential. He will also likely not cost a lot as he is only 17-years-old and does not have much experience at the top level.
I personally would like this move and think it could be smart to secure a top-level talent at such a young age like Tino Livramento. He may not come in and start right away but I think we could see Southampton pursue someone like Dean Henderson as well who wants to leave Manchester United.
Goalkeeping has been decent this season and Alex McCarthy has made some brilliant saves but the match against Norwich shows he is prone to a bad game more often some would like. I can appreciate what he and Forster have done for this club but I think it is time to move on and find the next number 1 for the club.
We will continue to keep you updated on all things Southampton and all the transfer rumours for the upcoming January window.
