“I fear” – Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu sent worrying warning ahead of Manchester United clash
Ireland legend Paul McGrath has told Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu to brace for a testing afternoon against Manchester United.
The Saints lock horns with the Red Devils in their 26th Premier League match of the season at Old Trafford on Sunday, 12th March. They will go into the game looking to build on their win against Leicester City last weekend.
However, Southampton face an uphill task to get a positive result against Manchester United. Erik ten Hag’s side have won nine and drawn two of their 12 league games at home so far this term.
They will also be determined to bounce back from their shock 7-0 loss against Liverpool in their last top-flight match. McGrath thus feels the trip to Old Trafford could be too much to handle for Bazunu.
The former Ireland defender has warned the Saints goalkeeper to prepare for a busy afternoon. He also resigned Ruben Selles and Co. for relegation.
"“I fear Gavin Bazunu is in for a very difficult afternoon too, when his Southampton side heads to Old Trafford in the Premier League today,” McGrath wrote in his Sunday World column.“The lad is going to be a great goalkeeper for club and country, but you have to feel this is going to be a very testing 90 minutes for the Dubliner.”“The Southampon defence will hardly be up to stopping Marcus Rashford in his current form and the more I see of this kid Alejandro Garnacho on the wing, the more I like him.”“No, it could well be a very busy match for Gavin, in what is proving to be a very troubled season indeed for Southampton.”“After losing to Leeds last weekend, the Saints now have relegation written all over them.”"
McGrath plied his trade at Manchester United for seven years between 1982 and 1989.
Southampton boss Ruben Selles delivers brilliant Theo Walcott verdict
Southampton manager Ruben Selles spoke highly of Theo Walcott ahead of the trip to Old Trafford. He explained that the experienced forward adds ‘expertise in relations’ to the team.
Walcott notably started in the Saints’ 1-0 win against Leicester last weekend. It remains to be seen if the former Arsenal man will retain his place in the line-up when they face the Red Devils.
