Former Arsenal centre-forward Chuba Akpom, 27, would be a fantastic signing for Southampton.

Akpom made a real statement this season as he managed to net an astonishing 28 goals and provide two assists in 38 Championship games this season for Middlesbrough.

Last season, Southampton’s biggest issue was their lack of goals. The Hampshire side created great opportunities with good amounts of possession at times but had no one to put the ball in the back of the net. However, Akpom would be a great answer to that issue in the Championship.

The former England Under 21 international has only got a year left on his contract at the Riverside Stadium, which indicates that he could leave for a relatively reduced fee but there is a chance that Akpom could extend his tenure in Teeside.

On the other hand, this move could prove to be a bit risky as this has been Akpom’s first high-scoring season. Whilst the forward was playing for PAOK Thessaloniki he racked up 29 goals and 13 assists in 131 games.

Despite this, the goals he netted in this most recent season have surely got to be worth the risk for the Saints.
