£25m consistent striker may have wasted his chance with Championship call

£25 former Saints hero Danny Ings could be braced for another tiring spell away from the pitch amidst rumoured side Middlesbrough's fresh market activity.

Nowadays, Armando Broja is preparing to gain his goalscoring rhythm back and Southampton fans will have only one special advice for him. To hop onto some of his past Saints highlights, which another successful figure Danny Ings needs to hear.

Both of them have had torrid spells once they set foot outside St. Mary's, and comeback must be the most popular words on their lips right now.

However, the never-played together duo may end up worlds apart in performance. And the stunning part is, Ings looks set to have a repeat of his sidelined outcast days instead of Broja.

The basic reason being their club selection, where the latter went at a Burnley team missing their previous scoring threat while Ings is in talks with a side plotting a reliable fan favourite striker's return.

In the words of Sky Sports: "Middlesbrough are attempting to hijack Chuba Akpom's move from Ajax to Birmingham City. It's understood Boro have made a last-ditch bid to the Eredivisie club - despite Ajax having agreed a loan with obligation to buy for £7m with Birmingham."

Ings has massive task to win over Boro fans and manager

Honestly, this Akpom news isn't a blow to Ings' go-to forward ambitions, it's a straight indication of the 32-year-old moving from the Premier League bench to sit on the Championship sidelines. All thanks to them having a fresh-legged frontman Tommy Conway at their disposal.

So, it's a tale of one promising candidate and an incoming cult hero, and it's natural to ask where does an outsider like Ings fits in at Middlesbrough. Neither the preferred one in the playing team selections, nor among the Boro fanbase.

There is still time for Danny Ings to step back from the Middlesbrough transfer, if he can, and rather opt for an attacking setup that truly needs his presence.
