Southampton have started October in exceptional form in the Championship.

Two wins have been secured and zero goals have been given up, with the Saints now inside the enlarged playoff format, off the back of these two victories being clinched.

Bolton Wanderers do represent somewhat of a tricky challenge, despite the South Coast side's flawless start to October, as the Trotters are just fresh off a seriously impressive 3-1 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers, who will be aiming to be in the promotion positions come the end of the season, alongside Tonda Eckert's men.

Moreover, for Gavin Bazunu, this will be a game that he will be desperate to stamp his mark on, as he left the Saints on bad terms, after one too many error-prone performances saw him be replaced by Daniel Peretz without much thought.

Bazunu would love to ruin Southampton's streak

The one-time Manchester City youngster was once a regular starter on the South Coast when Russell Martin was manager.

Indeed, the Irishman fitted in perfectly under Martin as a goalkeeper figure who was unafraid to have the ball at his feet.

But, as time wore on, it was clear that Bazunu had many a deficiency in his overall game, and he would be shifted out to Bolton this summer without much hesitancy, as Peretz - who has back-to-back clean sheets - has taken over first team duties effortlessly.

Ending his St Mary's career as a well-known accident waiting to happen will make him extremely determined to keep a clean sheet for his new team on Saturday.

It won't be easy, as he will faces the likes of Cyle Larin and Finn Azaz who can score goals in the blink of an eye, but the brand-new Bolton stopper has stood out enough in his fresh surroundings so far to suggest he won't be a pushover on his South Coast return.

He has impressed for Bolton

He has only kept one clean sheet in Lancashire, but that clean sheet performance was a remarkable 90 minutes for the reinvigorated Irishman.

Amazingly, Bazunu would make ten saves as he helped Bolton to a very fortuitous 1-0 win over Cardiff City last month, with eight of those saves coming from inside the box at point-blank range.

Last time out, away at Wolves, he also foiled Adam Armstrong - another former Saints player - with a terrific save, with the Molineux faithful just expecting an easy finish to rustle the back of the net for a striker of Armstrong's Championship calibre.

He is still a little error-prone here and there, with Jarrod Bowen's late winner back in early September, in a breathless 3-2 away win for the Hammers at the Toughsheet, seeing the red-hot captain's tame effort somehow beat him.

Additionally, he gave up three goals against Norwich, a couple of matches after that Hammers near miss, even as the Canaries only had four shots on target all afternoon.

But, he will be pumped up to prove his Southampton naysayers wrong when returning to familiar shores.

It would be very sweet for Bazunu if he was the keeper who stopped the Saints' 100% record at St. Mary's this season by putting in another inspired performance, like his one-man show against the Bluebirds.

It would be even sweeter from Southampton's perspective if they were to pick up another emphatic home win, and collect a clean sheet, to prove they were right all along to discard of the unreliable 24-year-old.
