Surely, a part of the keeper's downfall stood on Southampton's part, still Ramsdale's drop in performances was clearly evident.
Yet, surprisingly, fast forward to now, and that phase sounds like ages ago. That's because, as per the updated FBref stat list, Aaron Ramsdale has made a remarkable comeback as he is back in contention for one of the best PL keepers.
Once at a PSxG index of -2.7, Ramsdale has steered Southampton ahead of 5 clubs now, showing a drastic improvement to a PSxG of -1.5. And hence proven to be one of the strongest links in the Saints' recent fightback.
What's interesting further? For his brilliant comeback, Aaron Ramsdale is now among the contenders to make it to the Premier League Fans' Team of the Season.
Ramsdale represents Southampton in Team of the Season nominations
As per the Daily Echo, Ramsdale becomes the only Southampton player to make it to the nominees for the Premier League fan Team of the Season. The ex-Arsenal man will now compete for a lineup spot alongside 9 other PL keepers nominated for the Team of the Season.
Well, being the only Saints player nominated, the St. Mary's faithful would naturally root for Ramsdale to secure a final lineup spot. But, honestly, the keeper's chances of being recognised as the best No. 1 are modestly less.
Being ranked better than Fulham and Leicester in the FBref stat, Ramsdale is certain to finish at a respectable spot. Yet, a podium finish feels too much to ask for, with him expected to finish 5th or 6th best in the list.
Still, that's remarkable, given how the keeper has had the PL fans considering him among the league's best in a season to forget.
