Southampton defender Jan Bednarek has now joined Taylor Harwood-Bellis with an injury scare, after his collision while representing Poland.

In usual circumstances, the international break is a period to dread. This is because unless there are prestigious competitions ongoing, international duty hardly inspires any excitement in fans.

However, due to how the domestic season is going for Southampton, it's been quite nice for the fans to get some respite. Time to put your feet up and ignore the stresses of being a Saint for a week, right?

Wrong. The international break has only given Ivan Juric even more reasons to be concerned between now and the end of the season. After news of a Taylor Harwood-Bellis injury rocked the Southampton world, fans are now on the edge of their seats over his defensive partner.

Southampton defender Jan Bednarek injured on international duty

According to Polish outlet TVP Sport, Jan Bednarek was forced off the pitch for Poland vs Malta. The Southampton defender was involved in a clash, which resulted in bleeding. Of course, as a safety precaution, Bednarek was brought off the pitch to deal with the bleeding. There was some optimism that he would return for the second half but it didn't materialise, Bednarek had to miss the rest of the match.

In his own words, Poland head coach MichaƂ Probierz said: "Bednarek was still bleeding from the nose after the hit with the opponent. We decided that there was no point in him playing, but the whole thing is not serious."

As is customary in these circumstances, Southampton will run their own tests to diagnose Jan Bednarek themselves. Of course, they can take some comfort from Probierz's comments, but they won't rely on his reassurance for a final diagnosis.

Hopefully, Jan Bednarek's collision was not serious and did not maintain any long-standing impact. Fans should not be overly concerned by the decision to remove him from the game, since this is merely a safety precaution and not an indication that anything is wrong. We will see in due course where Southampton stands.
