Aston Villa legend Lee Hendrie is adamantly inclined towards Ross Stewart improving his Southampton playing image in the upcoming future.

The last Aston Villa outing started on a smiling note for Cameron Archer who was lined up to face his former club at St. Mary's. Still, by the time he left the pitch, Aston Villa fans must have thought they dodged a transfer bullet by offloading him.

On the other hand, the substitute tasked to fill Archer's shoes drew only disappointing emotions from the Southampton faithful.

The above-mentioned ace is Ross Stewart who has spent more time nursing his injury treatments than in training sessions during his ongoing two-year Southampton spell. Though he has started playing more in recent matches, the doubts about his form never cease to go away.

In a few months, Stewart will complete a full Championship cycle with the Saints and him not managing to net even once will surely bring the club's £10m investment call into question.

Hence, the club seems to be pretty much clueless regarding Stewart and could do better with a few ideas. Now, Aston Villa's respected legend Lee Hendrie has intervened to present a sensible plan for bettering the 28-year-old's present circumstances.

Stewart might receive more Southampton backing than Onuachu

First of all, Hendrie is inclined towards placing more trust in Stewart from now onwards. Secondly, the Villa icon has highlighted that the attacker's current progress will build a good foundation for him to thrive when the Championship commitments arrive.

Talking to the Football League World, Hendrie voiced these ideas saying: "Hopefully he comes back after pre-season with a strong fitness base and he'll always score goals, so I think they'd be stupid to get rid of him."

Just days ago, Southampton were hinted to close their Paul Onuachu chapter which was expected to be the verdict for Stewart as well.

Yet, the Scottish goalscorer is being vouched for further chances and may end up outperforming Onuachu's spell at the club. Realistically, this will escalate into a significant talking point if Southampton treated the duo differently.

Nonetheless, the Saints wouldn't mind those discussions if they ultimately got their pick spot on.
