Not that any Southampton fan wants to relive last night's shambles. However, we will highlight the best and worst player after the 1-5 loss to Chelsea.

Southampton hosted Chelsea in the Premier League last night. Despite playing fluid football and looking good at times... The Saints inevitably lost the match 5-1. Playing well at times in the match only made the hammering result harder to take.

However, despite what the woeful scoreline might suggest, there was one positive for Southampton. I know, it seems stupid digging for a positive after a result like that but what else are we to do?

So, here we will outline the best and the worst player from Southampton's 1-5 loss to Chelsea.

Joe Aribo - Southampton's best player

Last night, the diamond in the rough was definitely Joe Aribo. It is definitely easy to brush over his great performance, given the result, but it is in our best interest to hand Aribo his flowers.

Given the amount of players missing for Southampton, it was important that those available stepped up to the mark last night. It is fair to say that Southampton's game was not lost in the midfield but instead, their defensive mistakes.

If anything, Aribo made the game much easier for Southampton. His assured and composed touches proved that he has accelerated leaps and bounds since joining the Saints from Rangers in 2022.

So, Joe Aribo deserves this spotlight for his incredible performance. Let's hope for more of the same going forward!

Jack Stephens - Southampton's worst player

What was he thinking?

I mean, there's no denying that Marc Cucurella's hair is his standout feature and we would all be lying if we said we weren't jealous of his barnet.

If you've seen my author picture, you'd understand why I'm very much in that camp. But even I, with my severe lack of hair, would never do what Jack Stephens did last night.

By the time of his sending off for his ridiculous hair pull on Cucurella, the Saints were already 1-3 down. Stephens being shown a red card only rubbed salt into the wounds.

There are no two ways about it - The captain let the side down last night. By a country mile, he was Southampton's worst player, despite not even playing a full half.
