Michail Antonio has surpassed fifteen years since leaving Southampton but a respected figure has hinted the door to St. Mary's might be open.
Some time ago, Southampton fans learned about the first Premier League transfer that could succeed the ones done on the opening day of September. There are fewer merits in underscoring the fact that free transfers can only be stamped until around New Year's eve, and Brentford hold the keys to one such Michail Antonio call.
And their winter schedule for November and December couldn't have been more appealing. There are Newcastle, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs plus we know, scarcely any player says no to these nights.
Antonio will also look forward to it, but only when he gets the contractual all clear from Brentford's senior-ups. As closely sitting Championship competitors Watford show, obtaining a free entry is not straightforward.
The Hornets have reserved months disguised as a thinking period for their former man Emmanuel Dennis, then why would Brentford let go of their sweet waiting time on Antonio?
Southampton isn't an unthinkable option for Antonio apart from Brentford
A report from Football Insider has touted a negative conclusion on this front. In doing that, they quoted a tempting Mick Brown claim that will interest Southampton fans.
In his own words, Brown said to Football Insider: "But somebody lower down might take a chance on him, perhaps in the Championship if any clubs are in need of a striker and he feels he’s ready to come back."
Do Saints need a striker, yes but a quality marksman. And Antonio might have aspired to play Championship football at St. Mary's in his loanee days, although fifteen years have spanned since then.
Plus, the 35-year-old will barely get to wrestle for titles and medals at Brentford, who with all due respect, are a non-relegation entertaining club. Hence, Antonio doesn't have thrilling objectives there.
Come to St. Mary's, and there is a whole Premier League jump to be plotted. With Antonio, that can be less tougher but let's see how it goes.
