Cyle Larin could hit Rickie Lambert level numbers for Southampton if he keeps this up

Southampton are becoming widely known for being the entertainers of the Championship this season.

West Ham United, of course, have a mammoth 20 goals next to their name, but the Saints aren't too far behind, with 18 goals now stylishly put into the back of the net, after another emphatic victory this campaign was sealed against Bristol City.

Cyle Larin, Finn Azaz, and Kuryu Matsuki would all get in on the goalscoring act during the memorable 4-1 victory on Saturday, with Larin getting the ball rolling - as he usually does - as the South Coast outfit's main marksman, as he smashed home the first half opener.

He is in a ridiculous vain of form at the moment, and the goals don't look like they'll be drying up anytime soon, that's for sure.

Larin's inspired form in front of goal

The Brampton Bagsman is very much living up to his nickname currently.

He now has a stunning seven goals next to his name in Championship action this season from seven games, after powering home a blistering brace against the Robins.

The opener saw Larin thump home a well-worked move, with his second of the afternoon far more typical of the number nine's poacher instincts, as he gobbled up a second bite of the cherry after James Ward-Prowse's initial strike was blocked.

He is a joke at the moment in front of goal, with Larin crowned August's Player of the Month in the Championship as a result of his red-hot form.

Amazingly, his seven goal tally also means - at the time of writing - that he is the top goalscorer covering all of the major English divisions, which also means he leads the way in the early second tier golden boot race.

Larin is clearly a man possessed but even the most prolific goalscorers can endure a barren patch.

Hopefully, he avoids a goalless streak, as he could hit the crazy heights of Rickie Lambert in Saints red and white, if he keeps playing out of his skin.

He could hit Rickie Lambert's levels at this pace

Lambert was a quintessential journeyman for patches of his long career, with stints up and down the lower reaches of the EFL coming his way, before he found a concrete home in Southampton.

He did bag 60 goals for Bristol Rovers to catch the Saints' eye, but he was only getting started with the Gas, with his debut season on the South Coast a breathtaking watch.

Astoundingly, he would bag 30 goals from 43 League One outings during the 2009/10 season, with his ex-St Mary's boss, Alan Pardew, noting that he was a "natural goalscorer" when leading the line.

Larin seems to have goalscoring in his veins, too, so it's not an insane thought that he could hit the 30 goal mark, if he keeps up his preposterous start to the campaign over a full 46-game season.

Lambert would only score four goals across his first seven league encounters that season, so the Canadian already has a headstart, arguably, over the Saints icon.

Come the end of his long, successful time on the South Coast, Lambert would boast 115 goals from 235 games, as promotion to the Premier League was eventually won.

Larin might struggle to hit those same jaw-dropping numbers overall, as he's not a spring chicken at 31 years of age.

But, promotion should be achievable, as should smashing that 30-goal benchmark.
