Daniel Peretz was born in Israel and began his career with one of the country's biggest clubs, Maccabi Tel Aviv. He gained experience on loan at Beitar Tel Aviv Holon before becoming a mainstay for Maccabi.

Peretz went on to win the Israel State Cup, Toto Cup, and Super Cup with Maccabi. After playing over 100 times for Maccabi, he earned a move to one of the biggest clubs in European soccer, Bayern Munich. He won the Bundesliga with Bayern during the 2024/25 season, where he played in three league games.

The goalkeeper's development has since stalled and has had to go out on loan to ensure game time. He was on loan at Hamburger SV, but only played in cup matches. Peretz has now joined Southampton on loan in a bid to turn around their miserable run of form.

Daniel Peretz is an ambitious young keeper

Southampton is currently 15th in the Championship, and eight points from the playoff places. Despite this, Peretz has ambitions of reaching the Premier League with the Saints. He was quoted by George Rees-Julian of the Southern Daily Echo, saying, "I want to help the team get back in the Premier League. Although it’s a tough goal, I think it’s realistic."

It would take a miracle for Southampton to earn promotion to the Premier League this campaign. They have not won any of their last six Championship games. Their last match was a 4-0 loss to Middlesbrough, which was the final nail in the coffin for Gavin Bazunu. Peretz will likely replace Bazunu between the sticks going forward.

If Peretz was thinking long-term, then it is an understandable ambition. However, he is only on loan at Southampton until the end of the season. There is currently no option for the club to buy him, and he is contracted to Bayern until 2028.

Peretz is only 25, which is very young for a goalkeeper, and all top performers need to have ambitions. The Israeli international, who has 10 caps and has won the Bundesliga with Bayern, will still probably feel that he has the world at his feet. The Premier League is the best division in world soccer, and most top players dream of competing in it.

Southampton fans will like his ambition, but may not see it as realistic. Anyhow, players must aim for the dizzy heights; otherwise, what is the point of playing?
