Former Saints fullback Yan Valery is experiencing a similar uncertain transfer situation as Stuart Armstrong. Plus, Valery can be on the move for a consecutive second summer.
Although Don Goodman and Stuart Armstrong never played for the same club in their lengthy career spanning across English and Scottish leagues, the former's Sheffield Wednesday advice seems to have been well received by the latter ex-Saint. All speculations of his second Owls adventure has cooled down, which might be a letdown for his Wednesday fanbase.
Somewhere, Armstrong may be feeling helpless inside but he knows that certain off-field situations can't be resolved overnight. On top of that, his journey as an elite professional is mostly written so getting one door closed won't make him lose sleep over it.
Simultaneously, having to jump ships suddenly can make-or-break the first division ambitions for the relatively younger lot at Wednesday. That includes boyhood Saints defender Yan Valery, who even used to frequently make it to the senior Southampton lineup.
Yan Valery has Tino Livramento as a good example to follow
However, he had to taste French football later to make the best use of his potential. Again, everything was going upwards and onwards for Valery but now, he faces the possibility of changing clubs in back-to-back seasons.
According to a report from the Sheffield Star, Valery's immediate future may lie abroad or even at another Championship club.
The chances of him maintaining his current form might be slim, but it could be worth it in the long run as a promotion contender. Earlier, his fellow Southampton right-back teammate Tino Livramento was also left with a Newcastle United decision to make that turned out to be a masterstroke for the Englishman.
If Valery also carefully assessed the options about to be presented to him, his stature as a fullback could continue to rise at a better progress rate than it is now.
