Southampton fans have been made aware of a Chelsea transfer regret in the making and going signing-less for a while could land further blows to their transfer aspirations.

It's been a few hours but Southampton fans might not have moved on from the morning's forward teaser. Agreed, it's a welcome boost of excitement at a time when all Saints can do is cheer for their U21 internationals at the Euros, though the full-time whistle must have annoyed them.

Anyways, the final week of the month has started on a good note in terms of getting clarity on the squad Will Still will takeover next month. Yet, as usual, there are some incoming transfer "what ifs" amidst all these win-win summer deals and sadly, the list includes a top-notch target too.

Lifting the lid on the club, it's Chelsea, who contrary to the Saints expectations won't mind an Alfie Gilchrist sale according to an EFL Analysis report.

Gilchrist miss must not be repeated on the forward department

I know, if this eagerness from the Blues had come around ten days ago, Southampton fans would be smiling instead of worrying. As back then, the board were firm on securing loan agreements for some younger stalwarts and call it unlucky or a bad timing, but those players couldn't be snapped up and now Southampton wish to show their front three intent instead.

Touchwood, but if the Saints can't reach the contractual dotted line there, it could be a horrible transfer groundwork laid ahead of July's hectic transfer routine.

After all, a bunch of the world's finest teams will also deep dive into the dream signings pool by then, and navigating that buyer's queue could prove to be an uphill assignment for Southampton. Fingers crossed, let's hope for a positive transfer upswing at St. Mary's.
