Liam Rosenior is still on Leicester's shortlist and might give managerial competition to his Southampton compatriot Will Still as direct promotion rivals next season.
Recently, Russell Martin is deemed as the frontrunner to lead his boyhood side Rangers. Now, apart from feeling happy for Martin, Southampton fans are finding their own transfer victory that comes with the former's possible absence from the Championship scenery.
No doubt, that's good but when it comes down to coaches, the Saints can definitely lament about having the worst success ratio. Don't get it wrong, Will Still isn't a less worthy candidate but familiar competitors Leicester City might still end up having the last laugh over Southampton despite missing out on the Scot.
Back at the beginning of April, Liam Rosenior was viewed as the no-brainer ideal tactician Southampton should approach. I know, that speculation faded away quickly and his Champions League ambitions felt like a valid self-rejection reason for the St. Mary's faithful.
Still and Rosenior could lead Championship's promotion race
Well, in an unexpected turn of events, Sky Sports journalist Jack Dorsett has offered an update saying: "Danny Rohl, Liam Rosenior and Russell Martin remain on their shortlist - though the latter is unlikely at this stage, I'm told."
Intriguingly, Leicester haven't given up on Rosenior's signature while knowing that they fall in the same bracket as Southampton meaning acquiring Rosenior is almost an impossible task for them, too. But, maybe the Saints' Will Still call has motivated them.
The reason being that Still could've bagged a decent European job but the appeal of English football at Southampton might have overshadowed it. Similarly, Rosenior is also an Englishman and may want to test himself in the Championship waters again where a successful Premier League prize is up for grabs.
Indeed, that's not a scenario the Saints wished for, and let's see whether Still and Rosenior again end up in the same division or not.
