Southampton have splashed the cash to land the signing of Lewis Dobbin.

Dobbin would cost around the £9m mark to bring into the building, representing one of the Championship club's biggest splurges in the market since landing Finn Azaz's services for around £12m last summer.

If Dobbin hits the ground running at the same terrifying pace as the Irishman, this will also prove to be another lavish purchase that goes down as an instant treat, with the ex-Everton academy product bagging ten Championship goals last season, which is just one behind Azaz's 11-goal tally for the South Coast titans.

Everything is pointing in the direction of the 23-year-old being a sensational capture, as he spoke glowingly about his new club in his first interview after signing.

Dobbin's complimentary words about the Saints

Dobbin's first interview since joining was an eye-opening one.

He revealed that his run-in with Tonda Eckert's men towards the back-end of last season showed off the "Premier League quality" of the Saints team, making it an easy call to join the St. Mary's ranks.

Further noting that he loves to play on the front foot and be as "positive as possible", the prospect of him combining with the likes of the aforementioned Azaz, and Leo Scienzia next season is a tantalising one, as his new employers strive to be in and around the promotion positions.

He also went out of his way to note that Eckert's eagerness to bring him in, and what the German mentioned about the club, meant the move was sold to him "straightaway."

While the media have painted Eckert in a conniving and devious light for his role in Spygate, it's clear that he remains a very popular boss at Southampton, as both Cyle Larin and Daniel Peretz would further highlight the 33-year-old as one big pull behind them returning for good.

He confirmed what we all already knew about Eckert

At this point in time, Saints fans know that the German, for all his issues with Spygate, is still well-liked individual behind the scenes on the South Coast.

In another reality, Dragan Solak would have pulled the plug on Eckert for dragging his club through the mud. But, the Serbian stuck by him, and both Larin and Peretz have stayed staunchly loyal, as well.

With James Bree also waxing lyrical about his positive methods as a manager improving his overall game when extending his St Mary's contract, Dobbin's own compliments are yet another reminder about the firm fanbase the Berlin-born boss continues to have on his side.

All these kind words won't act as a rock-solid protective barrier against a FA ban, though, as the head coach waits to see if he will be chucked a banning order, after the Saints were expelled from the playoffs last campaign.

They're taking their sweet time coming to a decision, that's for sure, with a resolution surely coming to light soon.

Dobbin will keep his fingers crossed he can work alongside Eckert, after being so complimentary, with the worry that Spygate would put players off moving to the South Coast this off-season proving to be an unnecessary anxiety.
