Man United interested in signing Southampton superstar but with no luck

Man United have shown an interest in signing Tyler Dibling from Southampton. However, they will be out of luck in the January transfer window.

Tyler Dibling has been one of the standout players for Southampton this season. While it has been a campaign that the Saints will soon forget, Dibling has been one of those diamonds in the rough.

It is hard to believe that Dibling is just 18 years old. He has slowly forced his way into the lineup and he's played with plenty of maturity. The persona he gives off in interviews shows that he expects so much more of himself in the future too.

Therefore, it's no surprise to see clubs lining up to sign Tyler Dibling. At first it was Liverpool who wanted to sign Dibling but now, they are starting to see unwelcome company all over the place.

Man United interested in signing Southampton superstar but with no luck

According to an update from Ben Jacobs, who spoke to The United Stand, Man United have shown an interest in signing Tyler Dibling from Southampton. However, the Saints' perspective is clear; no sale will be made in the January transfer window.

In his own words (quoted by TBR Football), Jacobs said: “[Newcastle] liked him when Dan Ashworth was there and then Dan Ashworth came across to United, so sometimes those targets migrate. I think that is the same by the way with Tyler Dibling at Southampton who is concretely on Manchester United’s radar. Very early stages, no approach, nothing likely to be possible in January.”

It's understandable that Man United would be interested in signing Tyler Dibling. He is one of the best young players in the league, so this is natural. However, it is even more understandable that Southampton want to keep ahold of him, at least until the end of the season.

It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking 'well, Southampton will be relegated this season so they might as well cash in now.' However, this logic doesn't apply to Tyler Dibling as much as it does to the likes of Kyle Walker-Peters.

Dibling is under contract at the St Marys Stadium until 2027. Therefore, Southampton can afford to keep ahold of him throughout the January transfer window. At best, Southampton will avoid relegation and keep Dibling but at worst, they will just sell him in the summer.
