Southampton look as if they could face off against Real Madrid at the moment and give them a competent game.

Indeed, the Saints machine - under Tonda Eckert - just looks unstoppable at the moment, with a memorable 2-1 win over Arsenal in the FA Cup, somehow eclipsed by a jaw-dropping 5-1 victory on the road at Wrexham, back in the bread and butter of the Championship.

Southampton fans are now firmly in love with their unshakable side, with a staggering ten league wins picked up across their last 13 games in the taxing division.

They also have an FA Cup semi-final coming up against Manchester City to look forward to, as Pep Guardiola's classy side do battle with Eckert's promotion chasers, later in the month at Wembley.

Man City will be a very tough test

While Southampton fans will be getting carried away at the moment, in the head rush that is their beloved side's ongoing heroics, they will also be aware that a team of City's magnitude could comfortably brush the Saints aside.

City eased past Liverpool - who are the reigning Premier League champions - 4-0 in the last round of the esteemed competition, as Erling Haaland attempts to grab even more goals, against the likes of Taylor Harwood-Bellis at Wembley.

Only winning one of their last ten meetings between the front-foot sides, which was a 2-0 EFL Cup triumph in 2023, Southampton will have their work cut out for them to pull off another upset in this year's iteration of the FA Cup.

Yet, while much of the pre-match chatter will focus in on the might of the ten-time Premier League winners, City won't be looking forward to facing Eckert's men, either, after what they did to the current top-flight leaders in Arsenal.

Why City will also fear Southampton

Arsenal completely underestimated the Championship side in the last round of the FA Cup, leading to Mikel Arteta's league leaders collapsing to a flat 2-1 defeat.

City will be wary that they could be the next side to fall victim to a shock loss, at the hands of Eckert and Co. as Guardiola's side aren't quite the polished behemoth they once were.

In all competitions this season, City have lost nine times, across 50 games, with three of their four defeats in the Premier League for the campaign, coming away from the home comforts of the Etihad.

If this match-up between the impressive EFL outfit, and City, was to take place in Manchester, Southampton would likely fall to a sobering loss.

But, because it's at a neutral venue in Wembley, Southampton won't be fearful of any advantages, as the Saints look to spring a surprise, with their loyal masses behind him.

Moreover, with plenty of ex-City allegiances in the St Mary's group, with Harwood-Bellis and Samuel Edozie formerly of the Premier League team's academy, they will be raring to pull off an upset, to get one over on their old employers.

Southampton will just need to go into this one-off match with the same fearlessness that has seen them comfortably swat Wrexham aside, and leave Arteta scratching his head, as another memorable day in the FA Cup lies on the horizon.
