Mateus Fernandes can repeat Morgan Schneiderlin's transfer as Saints have learned about Manchester United's appreciation of the 21-year-old starlet.

Among attack minded players, Mateus Fernandes has become the first Southampton scorer this season in the wake of his precise top corner against Northampton Town. It's a special annual acclaim to earn and the 21-year-old has infact two of them, the first being last Carabao Cup campaign's opener.

Acknowledging that, the past is aging well with Mateus' career but the Portuguese may be in to walkthrough an old chapter too. Before St. Mary's, the midfielder's home was Sporting where he had a speedy ascent in age groups football.

But raking a full ninety minute league afternoon under Ruben Amorim's tutelage was a marathon that required time. In all respect, that was an unfinished business but Mateus could have been left in limbo obsessing over it as he was followed by Amorim to the Premier League.

According to a Talksport report, a fresh meeting can happen between the pair at Old Trafford.

Mateus leaving like Schneiderlin will be winnable scenario for Saints

There doesn't seem to be any immediate action on this front, so, Southampton fans can presume that Mateus' Manchester United switch isn't coming in atleast one or two years from now.

But whenever the stars align for his Red Devils arrival, the Saints fanbase will be engulfed with Morgan Schneiderlin's seven year stay. The Frenchman has always been grateful to St. Mary's and why wouldn't that be, when his ball control and fluid passing captivated Southampton fans.

Further, Schneiderlin went away on the back of an impressive €35m transfer fund which Mateus can even double in his case. Generally, teams can't wait to receive such figures but the Saints will be satisfied with a slightly lower windfall, if the box to box midfielder does the world of good to Southampton's midfield for a similar duration as Schneiderlin.
