Newcastle United have shown an interest in signing Aaron Ramsdale, just six months after making the £25m transfer to Southampton from Arsenal.

Aaron Ramsdale arrived at Southampton in the summer transfer window. Understandably, it was one of the most exciting deals the Saints had pulled off in some time. After all, Ramsdale was a former first-team star at Arsenal, one of the biggest clubs in England, before David Raya joined.

And while it took a few weeks to find his groove, Aaron Ramsdale has definitely had an impact on Southampton this season. If he didn't go through a chunk of the season injured, the Saints might be in a better position than they are currently in.

Nevertheless, the Saints seem relegation bound, so it's unlikely Ramsdale will be a player at St Marys Stadium for much longer.

According to a report by Emilia Hawkins of The Sun, Newcastle United are eyeing a shocking move for Aaron Ramsdale and they want to pounce on him this January. The report even states that the Magpies might try to convince the Saints with a transfer bid this month.

This is despite Aaron Ramsdale still being fresh into his Southampton tenure. Having been at the club for only half a year, Ramsdale might be prized away from the club competing for Champions League football.

It is not surprising that Newcastle are interested in Aaron Ramsdale. After all, they were one of the clubs linked to signing him before Southampton swooped in. Working under his countryman Eddie Howe might revitalise Ramsdale's career in the way that the Saints unfortunately couldn't.

Look, Southampton wouldn't be bitter to see Ramsdale leave the club, it is just one of those things in football. Arguably, it would be nicer to see Ramsdale flourish in the Premier League rather than suffering through the Championship.

That said, please do not mistake me as saying Ramsdale couldn't handle the Championship. Of course he could, he is not one of those champagne footballers who jumps ship during times of hardship. However, he deserves to be playing in the Premier League now.

So, yes, this season is probably Ramsdale's last in a Southampton shirt. Personally, I would not like to see him sold in the January transfer window. Southampton can afford to keep him until the end of the season, since he's not close to running out of contract anytime soon.
