Only one Championship player has created more chances than Southampton’s Finn Azaz

Finn Azaz is certainly up there as being one of the more entertaining Southampton attackers Tonda Eckert has at his disposal.

Indeed, when you remove the seven-goal heroics of Cyle Larin from the equation, Azaz shines brightly as another exceptional diamond in the German's attacking set-up, with seven goal contributions next to his name in league action this season.

Throw in Leo Scienza, too, who can make Championship defenders feel sick with his tricky feet, it's arguably one of the most enthralling forward lines to watch in the entire division, when they're all firing.

The Republic of Ireland international is far more than just a midfielder who can put away chances, however, with his chance creation numbers so far this season making him stand out even more as a classy operator.

In open play so far this campaign, the ex-Middlesbrough playmaker has created a bumper 16 chances.

The Championship Chat Podcast compiled these intriguing statistics on social media, with Jarrod Bowen - who is arguably the second-tier's standout performer - lagging just behind at 15, which really shows you how effective Azaz has been across a small selection of games so far this season.

It took Azaz some time to adjust to St. Mary's after a summer move last campaign from Boro, but he has become a terrifying prospect for Championship defences to defend under Eckert, as he has amassed 28 goal contributions from 48 games under the 33-year-old's reign on the South Coast.

The inspired Irishman will be keeping his fingers crossed that the German can stay in charge, amid speculation he could be banned by the FA for his involvement in Spygate, as it's clear they work wonderfully together.

Amazingly, despite amassing 16 chances being created in open play, he isn't the outright leader in the entire division, as this rival player - who lines up for a relegation-threatened side - beats him to top spot.

He is pipped to the top by one other Championship player

Cardiff City entered the Championship this season with a reputation for being an easy-on-the-eye watch.

Brian Barry-Murphy, who occupies the Bluebirds dug-out, has always stood out as a manager who favours an attractive, possession-heavy style, with a backroom role at Manchester City sticking out on his CV.

He managed to seal a first-time promotion back up to the Championship for the Welsh giants, as well, and this desire to be entertaining and slick on the ball hasn't been pushed to one side, back in the demanding second tier.

This is seen in the chance creation leaderboard, as Ollie Tanner leads the way with a whopping 17 chances created in open play this campaign so far.

The one-time Arsenal youngster only has two assists to show for all his hard work, frustratingly, but he did stand out during Cardiff's 3-1 win over Charlton Athletic right before the prolonged international break, as he assisted Jack Moylan's terrific second goal of the day.

Notching up three key passes, too, the number 11 has slid under the radar this season, but he has earned his temporary flowers somewhat with this recognition.

The Saints will have to keep Tanner quiet when they clash with Cardiff in mid-December if they want to pick up a result, you imagine.

If you're Azaz, you will want to leapfrog Tanner as soon as possible, with this an extremely interesting llst to come back to when more Championship games have been played, and the November break comes into effect.
