Southampton's biggest signing since relegation to the Championship was Shea Charles last summer for an initial £10.5 million. The Saints' spending in the future will, of course, hinge largely on whether or not the club is promoted back into the Premier League this season.

The club's director of football, Jason Wilcox, will undoubtedly be building a transfer plan based around the club heading back to the top flight. While the upcoming summer transfer window is still months away, the club has already begun to be linked to players who will only be an option should Southampton return to the Premier League. One of those names is 20-year-old Matias Soule.

The Argentine winger is currently on loan at Serie A side Frosinone from Italian giants Juventus. There is large speculation in the football circles in Italy that Juventus could sell Soule this summer to raise funds for future transfers. Calciomercato is linking Southampton to a summer transfer for Soule, which will hinge on promotion. The Italian website reported that Southampton had already seen a £29.8m offer disregarded in January.

There are certainly discussions that will take place between Juventus and Southampton this summer, although that will be about whether Charly Alcaraz will sign for the Serie A side permanently. This isn't the first instance of Southampton being linked to Soule, and it may not be the last, potentially making it a situation to watch in the summer.

Soule moved to Juventus in 2020 from Velez Sarsfield's academy in Argentina. The 2003-born winger has come through the academy ranks of Juventus and has made 21 senior appearances for the club. Soule's move to Frosinone is his first loan away from Juventus, but the player has been a shining star in the Serie A this season. He has scored ten goals, adding two assists along the way in just 21 games. Calciomercato's report on Soule suggests the player's valuation at the moment may be around £34m.
