Chris Sutton calls out Southampton's 12th PL point celebration, saying it was embarrassing after a hard-fought draw against Man City.
Currently, it's like a festival for Southampton fans, who have got their biggest reason to celebrate in this dull season. But, it's not been for the Saints' 12th point only, but the way it has come in a difficult draw against Man City.
Honestly, few would have seen that Southampton fight back coming against Pep's side, making it worth celebrating completely. Still, was it really needed?
This is because if Southampton hadn't been at their worst, it shouldn't have been this difficult and this long a wait for them to cross Derby's lowest total.
And that's why, former Premier League player turned pundit, Chris Sutton, considers it quite shameful on the Saints' part, the way they felt on cloud nine after a home draw with Man City.
Sutton questions Southampton's attitude after 0-0 Man City draw
Speaking on the BBC Radio(as quoted by the Daily Echo), Sutton went as far as saying: "If I am a Southampton fan, I am excited, but if I am seeing my players celebrating, I would be thinking 'heaven help us for next season'. What a bunch of losers."
Now, undeniably, Sutton has had a reputation as a Saints critic among the supporters, but this time, the pundit's comment hardly feels biased.
After all, for a side that has to push for promotion next season, a measly fought draw can't be the norm. Especially, not at home, to avoid the worst team tag.
Like it or not, now that the Derby record fears are over, Southampton needs to win the confidence of the St. Mary's faithful. And the least they can do for it is deliver a performance full of intent in the upcoming games against Everton and Arsenal.
Simply put, the Saints need to send a statement of intent down the Championship ladder. And maybe, that secures a part of the job done in advance for their promotion next season?
