Southampton's on-loan star Samuel Edozie was the subject of transfer rumours throughout the summer transfer window, having joined the Saints in a £10 million move two years ago. The 21-year-old talented winger agreed a season long loan move to Belgian side Anderlecht, where he is currently thriving as a regular starter. A few weeks ago, Edozie made his impressive UEFA Europa League debut in a 2-1 win over Ferencvaros and scored his first Anderlecht goal in the following 1-1 league draw with Dender.
Although the former Manchester City academy graduate is getting regular playing time under manager David Hubert, Edozie could have signed on a loan transfer for Scottish side Rangers instead. The 55-time Scottish Champions submitted a loan transfer offer to Southampton in the final week of the transfer window and reached an agreement with both Edozie as well as the Saints, but didn't completed the transfer move. Southampton manager Russell Martin wasn't satisfied with Rangers making a U-turn over the deal and revealed that his former club made the transfer mistake while finalizing the loan move.

Now, Rangers legend Derek Ferguson has also given his opinion on Edozie's loan transfer saga between the two sides. The former Scotland international who played as a central midfielder agreed with the Southampton manager, saying,
"I've not got a clue what happened, but Russell has come out and he says it was Rangers' fault and do you know something? He’s probably right. There's so many things where Rangers let themselves down big time. And that just looks like another one."Derek Ferguson
Although Ferguson admitted not having the full information regarding the transfer move, the Ex-Rangers star was convinced with Martin's opinions that Rangers couldn't finalise Edozie's signing in the last week of the transfer window. Further, it could have been a great opportunity for Edozie to become familiar with the requirements and demands of the English top flight as well as get some invaluable first team experience under Rangers manager Philippe Clement.
However, it isn't the case and Southampton will want that Edozie continues his upward trajectory at Anderlecht and gives a lot of great performances consistently in the Belgian Pro League as well as the UEFA Europa League.
