Southampton's former left-sided winger Sadio Mane was a polished and clinical scorer at St. Mary's. But penalties, well that's a topic Saints would feel uncomfortable mentioning about Mane though the latter gets to celebrate always.
Penalties can feel like the easiest job in football but that's only when one is a calm headed specialist like Matt Le Tissier. His one penalty fail is still unbelievable for Southampton fans, but come on, a forward can be only a scoring-man.
One attempt with only one person to beat has more reputation to lose than gain, so, let's respect that Le Tissier converted more than two dozen successful spot-kicks. In contrast, both Cameron Archer and Adam Armstrong's last season efforts stopped well before the goal-line, though the latter still netted.
Well, they need to stop being lame in those moments as nobody manages to escape those punishments like iconic Saints winger Sadio Mane.
Mane mistook another penalty but it didn't haunt him
As pointed out by GOAL, Mane was erratic from the spot during preseason responsibilities for Al-Nassr.
But you don't have much problems dealing with those setbacks when you have Cristiano Ronaldo on your side. The Saudi outfit claimed the win and Mane's prestigious run of no defeats while faring poorly in penalties continued.
If that's what lucky is, then the St. Mary's have also thanked their fate once. The Senegal star isn't the one raising hands for such solo duels against the keeper, but faltering one chance led him to not desire for more at Southampton.
Right now, the 33-year-old is shifting towards his retirement years which has increased his appetite for handling set-pieces. Because, it's better to miss some, score the rest than regret not being fearless to give in significant tries when he could in his career.
