Jan Bednarek stresses that if Southampton's attack had done more to ease pressure on the defence, their season might have been different.

Starting today, Southampton begins the countdown of its last three weeks as a Premier League club. And though an important phase for the Saints, it's an odd stretch in which they have more to lose than win now.

Let's hope it doesn't happen, but any slip-up in their upcoming games could see Southampton finish the season as the worst Top Flight club ever.

That's why, despite the intense pressure situation, Southampton must improve. And thankfully, there's a glimmer of hope to this.

Impressively, ahead of the season's final stretch, Captain Jan Bednarek has shown leadership as he points out the most important aspect, downplaying Southampton's results.

As per the veteran Saint, while the club's overall performance has been unsatisfactory, their struggle hasn't been helped by a disconnect between their attack and defence.

Even in the rare times they lead, Southampton’s attack hasn’t provided enough presence to relieve the defence. And hence, for the plethora of crucial points they have dropped this season.

Jan Bednarek highlights lack of aid from attacking department

As quoted by the Daily Echo, Bednarek showed dissatisfaction with their front-up play, saying: "And I think when you have to defend 20 situations instead of 10 or 15, it makes it harder because the percentage is going up in their favour."

What’s frustrating is that it's not the first time a backline leader has called for Southampton's poor attacking department. In case you remember, veteran full-back Kyle Walker-Peters expressed a concern weeks ago, but that didn't impact enough.

Well, by now, it's clear that even if not for a complete overhaul, a major rebuild awaits in the Saints' front line. Yet, until then, Southampton are forced to end the season the same way.

For now, we can just hope for an improvisation from the attack department in this final phase of the season. After all, this doesn't feel to be too much of an ask.
